(LESSON 16):--- How To Rise Above The “They Say” Class And Become An Accurate Thinker

Score image

This is the most important, most interesting and the most difficult lesson to present in this entire lesson so far. Important because, it deals with principle which run through the entire lesson of career job and talent as concern someone becoming successful.

Interesting for the same reason, Difficult to present for the fact that it will carry the average student far beyond the boundary line of his common understanding into a realm of thought which he has never dealt with as such so, an open mind is needed to study this particular lesson because it is going to be lengthy, and unless you open your mind, you will miss the very key-stone to the highest point of the lesson.

And without this key-stone you can never complete your temple of success towards your career job and or talent.

I urge you do not close your mind to the extent of disbelieving that which you cannot understand because; it is with the knowledge of this human tendency in mind that I caution you against that if you do not grasp all that are in this lesson at first reading.

Remember that for thousands of years men made ships with wood, and of nothing else. The reason while of using wood is because they believed that it was the only substance which have the capacity to float on water; but that was because they closed their mind entirely then, and not eager to advance their mind in thinking process to understand the golden truth that steel will also float on water and should be a far superior tool than wood.

They did not know that anything can float on water which was lighter than the amount of water is displaced. Men dwindled through years before they could open up their mind for accurate thinking process which led to their success in building stronger and long lasting ships with steels.

Coming back to accurate thought, there are two fundamentals involved in accurate thought which all who indulge in it must observe. And they are:
--- First, for one to think accurately you must separate FACTS from mere INFORMATION.
--- Second, separate FACTS into two classes;
(i) The important facts (relevant facts)
(ii) The unimportant facts (irrelevant facts)
Only by the above separation will you be able to think accurately.

To understand the importance of separating between facts and mere information, let us study that type of man which is guided by that which he hears; the type of man who is influenced by all the “whispering of the winds of gossip”; the man who accepts, without clear analysis, all the things that he reads in the newspapers and who dedicated their time in judging others by what their enemies and competitors and contemporaries say about them.

While we are on this lesson, I urge you to search your circle of acquaintances and pick out one of this type of man as an example to keep. You will observe that this man usually begin his conversations with some such terms as this ___ “I see by the papers,” or “they say.” While the ACCURATE THINKERS are always aware that the newspapers are not really accurate in their reports, and he also knows that what “they say” usually are gladdened with falsehood than it seems to be truth.

So, if you have not risen above the “I see by the paper” and the “they say” class, know that you are still far and have far still to go before becoming an ACCURATE THINKER. Truly there is element of truth and facts that travel in the guise of idle gossip and the so-called newspaper reports; but the accurate thinker will examine and will never accept as such all that he sees and hears.

This is a fact which I feel disturbed to talk more about, because, it is made up of the rocks and reefs on which many people flounder and probably go down to defeat in a bottomless ocean of false conclusions.

Your accurate thought should be channeled with honesty, for it is hard to see how many people there are who are “honest” when it is profitable to them, but find series of facts to justify themselves in following that their dishonest way when that their way seems to be more profitable or advantageous to them only.

There is no doubt about that, we all know people who are like that. Below are what to do in order to become an accurate thinker:
1. As an accurate thinker, you have to adopt a standard by which you guide yourself.

2. Follow the above standard always, whether it works always to your immediate advantage or carries you through the field of disadvantage.

3. Finally as an accurate thinker; you should understand the soundness of the philosophy that this olden days philosopher, Croesus, had in mind when he said:
“There is a wheel in which the affairs of men revolve, and its mechanism is such that it prevents any man from being always fortunate.”

There should be one standard which you should conduct yourself as an accurate thinker when having affairs with your fellow men, and that standard should be observed faithfully by you the accurate thinker when it brings you temporary disadvantage as it is when it brings you outstanding advantage because, as an accurate thinker, you should know that, by the law of averages, you will more than regain at some future time that which you loses by applying this standard to your own temporary detriment.

So, you have to understand that, it requires the staunchest and the most unshakable character to become that ACCURATE THINKER.

But have in mind that there is a certain amount of temporary penalty attached to ACCURATE THINKING, while this is true, you should also know that the compensating reward is so overwhelmingly greater than you will gladly accept to pay for this penalty without much grudges.

So, it is often necessary to gather facts through the sole source of knowledge and experience of others. And it is so paramount to examine carefully both the evidence submitted and the individual from whom the evidence emanates.

And the evidence should not affect the interest of the witness who is giving it, and when it does so, there should be reason to verify (scrutinize) it all the more carefully because, witness who have an interest in the evidence that they are submitting often times fall into the temptation of coloring and perverting it to protect that his/her interest.

Slanders from men should be accepted if it comes of any weight at all, at least with some level of proverbial caution; because, it is so common a tendency for men to find nothing but evil in those whom they do not like.

For a man who has attained the degree of ACCURATE THOUGHT which enables him speak of his fellow enemy without exaggeration and condemnation is all but an exceptional man.

This is because; some very able men have not yet risen above this vulgar attitude and self-destructive habit of belittling their enemies, competitors and the likes. My reason for bringing this tendency to your attention is because; it is a tendency that is fatal to “ACCURATE THINKING.”
